Dinner coincided with CVE being named a Great Place to Work and a UK Best Workplace in Manufacturing, Production & Transportation™

Cambridge Vacuum Engineering (CVE) recently held a special staff celebration evening to honour and reward dedicated employees that have been with the company for more than a decade and who have cumulatively stacked up more than 600 years’ service at the company.

The event, which took place at Thatch Barn in Yelling, recognised the loyalty and commitment of 25 long-serving staff members, each of whom received a commemorative plaque and cash award. Among them was Roger Smith, who has achieved an extraordinary milestone of 51 years with CVE – a testament to his outstanding service and dedication.

The celebration featured welcome drinks and a three-course meal, followed by an awards ceremony and a relaxed outdoor cheese and coffee station, giving colleagues the chance to share stories and reflect on their time with the company.

Bob Nicolson, Managing Director at CVE, commented: “This event was about recognising the incredible contributions of our team members. Their passion, expertise and loyalty are the foundations of CVE’s continued success – something we do not take for granted. We are especially proud to celebrate Roger’s 51 years with us – a truly remarkable achievement.”

The celebration coincided with CVE being named one of the UK’s Best Workplaces in Manufacturing, Production & Transportation™ 2025 for the second consecutive year; and a Great Place to Work for the third year running. This recognition highlights CVE’s commitment to fostering a positive, supportive and engaging workplace culture.

Bob added: “Being recognised, once again, as a Great Place to Work, alongside celebrating our long-serving colleagues, reflects the values we live by at CVE. We are proud to invest in our people and to create an environment where they can thrive.”

For more than 60 years, CVE has been supplying innovative welding solutions to some of the biggest names in aerospace, automotive, defence, nuclear, and oil and gas – helping them solve major engineering challenges. Demand for the company’s welding know-how is ramping up as industries seek to lower their carbon footprint and speed up the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries, wind turbines and nuclear reactors.
